Age Level for Tryouts:

Players are not required to try out for their age level if they are currently playing at a higher level.  Players can try out for age levels up to two years older than their birth year.  However, they will be placed on the team or age level that is appropriate based on their skill level.

When and What to bring day of Tryouts:

  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to start of tryouts to check in.
  • Shin guards
  • Cleats
  • Water bottle
  • Goalie equipment if trying out for goalie

Tryout Evaluations:

The tryout process is structured to be fair and unbiased.

All players will be assigned a unique number that will be used on the assessment form for identification. Names are not used.  The number will be placed on front of a players shorts.  The number is unique to the player and will be used to post offers via ECSA’s website. Please retain this number for future reference.

Tryouts Assessors are respective age level coaches, ECSA DOC, and trainers.  Assessors use a standard assessment form for all tryouts.  Players are scored on technical, tactical and physical play. Assessors are encouraged to write objective comments to help with formation of teams.

Formation of Teams:

The number of teams at each age group is determined by the number of players trying out, the minimum roster size and the ability of the group as a whole to be placed in Classic, Elite or State leagues.

ECSA Tryout Committee will make every effort to form a team for all players who try out. In doing so they may decide to combine two age groups to form a team. (Example U14/15 as some players will be playing high school soccer and are only available for a ½ season.).  Teams will be formed appropriately based on skill level.

Offer Period:

ECSA will extend offers toplayers who then have 24 hours to accept or decline the offer.  Coaches have the right to give players more time to consider the offer at their discretion.

ECSA Rules:

  • Registration fees are non-refundable.
  • Some age levels have multiple teams while some age levels may not have enough to field a team.  ECSA reserves the right to combine a team based on the number of attendees at tryouts and will be communicated in the offer.
  • In order to ensure that teams have adequate players, ECSA reserves the right to rescind an offer based on number of declined offers.  Example:  U11 Girls have 12 girls who were sent offers.  Four offers were declined and only eight accepted.  Only eight players is not enough to field a team and ECSA tryout committee will meet to discuss team and then notify players if there is not enough players to form a team.
  • Parents are welcome to watch tryouts, but are not allowed to coach or cheer on their child during tryouts.
